Four elements-new, old, borrowed and blue
There is a saying going like this, “Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue”, that is to say, on the big day, the bride can wear clothing, jewelry, and anything that have the above four elements. This is a tradition dated back in nineteenth century in England, and the significance of the traditions are: something old means the brides’s family links and her old life, while something new you may guess represents the happy future life before the couple. Something borrowed is usually from a happy couple so as to bless the happy life for the newly married, and something blue is to represents fidelity and purity in a couple.
White wedding dresses
In most countries, the brides would prefer white bridal gowns, which is also a tradition from Victorian times. Before Queen Victoria’s wedding, the brides simply wore their Sunday best for wedding. And as for the meaning of white, it symbolizes purity and virginity, so until nowadays, the brides still regard white as the first choice.
Nuptial march
In 1858, a royal wedding of Princess Victoria was celebrated in United Kingdom in a form of March. From then on, all the brides in UK include wedding march as an important part.

Bridal veils
In several traditions, the groom was unable to know how the bride looks like before wedding. And during the wedding, the brides were covered by veils until all the ceremony was over so as to avoid the groom may change his mind.

Wedding rings on the third finger
Nowadays, it seemed that all the brides would wear the rings on the third finger of the left hand, do you know why? Two origins go like this: according to Egypt, tradition, they believe the “vein of love” ran directly from the ring finger to the heart, so the rings were placed on the third finger in order to represents loyalty to love. Another origin dated back 17th century, when the thumb, index finger and middle finger were regarded as “In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit”. And the rings finger was free, it is regarded as perfect place for rings.
